Comprehensive Plan Discussion

Updated: Feb 14, 2020

The Kootenai County Board of Commissioners’ (BOCC) Community Development meeting was held December 5th. One of the topics covered was a proposed code amendment that would potentially give the BOCC more latitude in dealing with the Dept. of Corrections plan to build a prisoner re-entry center in Kootenai County. The board voted to send two options to the Planning Commission for their consideration and recommendation to the BOCC. Many property owners are concerned about the possible repercussions of building a re-entry center in the county. The NWPOA Board is following this issue and will keep members apprised of developments.

The second topic of discussion was the “Planning Commission’s recommendation to place the Comprehensive Plan Update document in front of the existing comprehensive plan and to make an appendix out of the remaining sections of the 2010 Comprehensive Plan (minus 2010 goals, objectives and policies).” The BOCC voted in favor of modifying the document as proposed, with the appended sections to be updated over time and submitted to public comment and, ultimately, BOCC approval.

The Comprehensive Plan is a critical battleground in the fight for property rights. It is incumbent upon all of us to engage—as much as possible—in the update process, by submitting written comments and attending public hearings.

It is our goal to keep you informed regarding these issues and so enable you to participate in the process of protecting your constitutional rights. Together, we can make a difference. As President Reagan once said, “If you can’t make them see the light, let them feel the heat.”
